Shaun Spencer

Shaun Spencer - Absence of Coincidence
"an album of melodic songs in the grand tradition of folk ballads".

At the end of 1997, the recording of Absence of Coincidence from the singer-songwriter was completed. CD's were manufactured & the compilation album was sent to record company A&R departments seeking a publishing & distribution deal.
In 2006 the album began to get recognition partly due to the independent musician’s website CDBABY.com. With digital distribution options in check, the word is out.

Absence of Coincidence

Review by Paul Vinken

I have listened to your CD thoroughly and like your style! I had associations with ToTo, Todd Rundgren, Level 42, Little River Band, Kid Creole and more southern cotton belt influences.

Track number 5, (Don't be afraid) is nothing more than a bloody musical masterpiece, as far as I can be the judge of things. And I am not your casual reviewer from a newspaper,
I am a musician as well - aware of the chords and tricks that send rookies in the woods at a concert. In this song, the smart consequent weaving of the disciplined female background vocals in major key with the melody and chords on the foreground that were there from the start - is a brilliant concept. You must have had the idea beforehand that this somehow should fit, and proved your theory to be correct in a very subtile and sophisticated execution.

It is the type of song that gets me turned on. It is too hard to follow for 97.8% of the general public worldwide. The remaining 2.2% are composers and musicians like us, and they will acknowledge the elegance of the two melodies and the underlying structure that forms the basis of this Impressive Beverly Hills Mansion

Company of Strangers

Review by Lisa Hogarth (Music Consultant, South Africa)

The very first track on this Country-Rock album has your feet tapping from the very first bar and sets the mood for some really good listening pleasure.  The style is vaguely reminiscent of The Bellamy Brothers in that it has the same buoyant "lift your spirits" feeling about it.

Particular favourites of mine are the title track ''I'll be there" and "This Time Around", but each song has its own individual appeal.  It is a real pleasure to listen to original songs instead of the same tired old revamps all the time.

Spencer & Van Luit's approach is fresh and appealing and I look forward to hearing more of them in the not-too-distant future.

Three Shades of Grey

Review by Lisa Hogarth (Music Consultant, South Africa)

André Bleeker's THREE SHADES OF GREY album is a bit of a misnomer for me - unless you're thinking of misty moontlight, silvery dawns and hazy days when the fog lies thick over the sea hiding the sun. There are tracks that cover all of these images but, my overall impression when listening to the album is of long white beaches, palm trees, bright blue skies and brilliant sunshine dwindling down into balmy evenings under the stars, sipping exotic cocktails and dreaming of yesterday, today and tomorrow - happy and sad memories of the past, enjoyment of the present and hopes for the future.

This is ideal background music for any occasion as it is not at all obtrusive and somehow manages to put you into a really mellow mood.  Personally, I love it!
